Collaborate on the SNJM mission

Our congregation of Catholic Religious Women promotes the integral development of the person. We are fully committed to promoting justice and preserving the environment. The example given by our predecessors has encouraged us to work in collaboration with local people and organizations in order to best meet the needs expressed by each local community.

Our values, our collaborative approach and our contribution to the development of the various living environments of Lesotho invite people to participate in the SNJM mission. Here are some of the ways to join us.

Pray with us

The first form of support for the SNJM mission while discovering the spirituality of our Catholic religious congregation is prayer.

It’s a great way to understand our source of hope and inspiration.

Daily prayer

Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher obtain for us today
the audacity of FAITH,
the simplicity of HOPE,
the power of LOVE so that we may actualize the word of Jesus:
“I have come to cast fire on the earth.
How I wish that fire were blazing already!”
(Luke 12,49)

Prayer for peace

Marie-Rose Durocher,
you who were so attentive
to the society of your time,
see the suffering of our world.
Intercede for us with Jesus and Mary
so that peace
may reign in our hearts
and among nations.
Amen.

Prayer for the Sick

Marie-Rose Durocher,
you knew the limits of frail health
and you loved the sick you visited very much.
Incercede with Jesus and Mary
so that people who suffer
find comfort
and remain courageous in their trial.
Amen.

Become an associate

Our way of acting and being is a testament to our deep values of solidarity and collaboration. This presence encourages some lay people to deepen their spirituality and participate more actively in the SNJM mission.
The associate commitment brings together lay people who wish to deepen their spirituality and better understand the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM). Associates follow a deepening process before formally expressing their commitment, renewed annually.

The SNJM associate is part of a group. The latter plans its resourcing program and its activities for the year in order to promote exchanges and consolidate the links between them. At the same time, the associate is called to commit to his environment by testifying to the values of Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher.
We currently have around 50 SNJM associates in Lesotho.

If you are interested in this form of engagement, contact a SNJM sister or the SNJM provincial administration in Lesotho for more information.

Become a SNJM Sister

The active and comforting presence of the SNJM Sisters was inspiring as soon as they arrived in Lesotho in 1931. Their values, cooperative approach and contribution to the development of local communities led many women to join our Catholic religious congregation. Nowadays, it is native women of the country who provide the SNJM presence in Lesotho.

A woman who feels a call from God for the consecrated life is called to make a discernment process. During her formation process with sisters of our congregation, she will validate her fields of interest, including teaching, commitment to the marginalized, health, justice, the approach towards the full development of the person and prayer.

After her formation, she will make three wishes:

  • Chastity, with a commitment to celibacy in response to God’s call and to witness to his love
  • Poverty, by accepting to live the simplicity of life through constant internal conversion
  • Obedience, by a constant search to fulfill God’s will in an attitude of inner freedom

Serving in the Church, we are faithful to the charism of our foundress, Blessed Marie-Rose Durocher. Our mission is deeply rooted in a spirituality inspired by the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

Anyone interested is invited to contact the SNJM provincial administration office or speak directly with a SNJM sister.
