Sisters of Holy Names of Jesus and Mary – Lesotho

Educating youth and supporting poor people

We are an apostolic community of Catholic women religious that has been present in Lesotho since 1931. Our congregation was founded in 1843 by a Canadian, Eulalie Durocher. Her spirituality, her values of openness and respect towards others, and her determination to foster the full development of the human person are a source of continuous inspiration for us. Since 2018, the Lesotho province of SNJM is comprised solely of native sisters.

Our Mission

We continue to promote the integral development of each individual as a way of honouring our commitment to education in the spirit of Mother Marie-Rose. We are also involved with marginalized people through the implementation of various community services, including our dispensaries and clinics. By working together with sisters throughout our international congregation, our mission often extends to projects promoting justice and protecting our planet.
